Former Glidden Site Redevelopment Project Named a 2026 Top Deal by Lehigh Valley Business

WYOMISSING, Pennsylvania – February 5, 2026 – NAI Keystone is proud to announce that the “Glidden Site Redevelopment” is announced as a 2026 Top Project and Deal by Lehigh Valley Business. The former vacant Glidden Site located at 1853 N. 3rd Street, Reading, PA, is a 19.4-acre site that operated as a former chemical and paint manufacturer. NAI Keystone’s John Buccinno helped facilitate the deal in 2024 by representing the buyer, Berks County Industrial Development Authority, along with Shuman Development Group.

Lehigh Valley Business has selected NAI Keystone to receive a 2026 Top Projects Award. Top Projects is an awards program that honors the best building and construction projects in the Lehigh Valley that were completed between January and December 2025. The awards are not only a look back at the excellent work that’s taken place in the previous year, but they also anticipate how these plans and projects potentially establish landmarks of the future.

We look forward to the plans that the Berks County Industrial Development Authority (Berks IDA) has in partnership with Shuman Development Group, to redevelop the Act 2 site into viable commercial and industrial uses. Split by a rail easement, the redevelopment plans for the site will include two parts: a development of the lower 14 acres for a retail shopping center and 5.4 acres of industrial properties redeveloped by Berks IDA.

In 1948, Glidden, a manufacturer of latex, solvent-based paints and resins, revolutionized the paint industry with the introduction of Spred Satin, its first water-borne latex paint. Glidden left the site in 2007, creating the need for environmental cleanup and remediation, After forty-five remaining buildings on the property were demolished in 2010, the site sat vacant for nearly a decade.

The Berks IDA is a leader in transformational development projects, tackling difficult sites within Berks County to bring them back to productive use. This marks its first-ever land acquisition and development within the City of Reading.
